Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, welcomed the establishment of a government in Lebanon but voiced concerns over the crises.

He urged states and organizations in the region to help Lebanon surmount its difficulties and called on Lebanon to enact reforms and prepare for the National Assembly election planned for 2022.

Mr. Quy expressed concern about the lack of progress in implementing Resolution 1701. He urged all stakeholders to strictly observe the Resolution, respect the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)’s right to freedom of movement, and facilitate its full access to areas of interest.

Adopted in August 2006, Resolution 1701 calls for a full cessation of hostilities, the deployment of Lebanese forces to Southern Lebanon, a parallel withdrawal of Israeli forces behind the Blue Line, strengthening the UNIFIL to facilitate the entry of Lebanese forces in the region, and the establishment of a demilitarized zone between the Blue Line and the Litani River.
