The meeting was between Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, who leads the Government’s negotiation delegation on reciprocal trade agreement with the US, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
The talks took place in Jeju, South Korea, following the just-concluded 31st APEC Ministerial Meeting on Trade and an online meeting on April 12 between the two trade officials as directed by the two countries’ senior leaders.
Discussions were seen as constructive and open with the trade officials agreeing on negotiations’ principles, approaches, agendas, and roadmap, laying the groundwork for upcoming talks.
"USTR Greer agreed with Vietnam's current approach and proposal," Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement. "The US hopes that with mutual efforts, the technical-level negotiations in the coming days will yield positive results," contributing to a stable and sustainable development of Vietnam-US bilateral trade and comprehensive strategic partnership, it added.
