Vietnam has a strong demand for US energy, high tech, airplanes, machinery, and agriculture, and offers American consumers many low-priced consumer goods that don’t compete directly with US producers, Deputy Minister Tuan noted.
He said he believes bilateral economic and financial cooperation should be increased and serve as a symbol of trust and a substantive Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for mutual prosperity.
Mr. Tuan proposed that the US Treasury Department support Vietnam’s access to US technology and facilitate technology transfers to promote bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
Assistant Secretary Kaproth praised the Vietnamese Government’s recent efforts but expressed concern about Vietnam’s trade imbalance with the US, which it said is unsustainable. The two men agreed that now is a good time to make financial cooperation more effective.
