Attending the ceremony on Wednesday were Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, US Ambassador to Vietnam, David B. Shear, and other officials. Ngoc said that 25 years ago the missing in action (MIA) were the first area of cooperation after the war ended. Since then, MIA activities have been contributing to multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and US. The Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister asked the US to enhance its cooperation with Vietnam in bomb and mine clearance, Agent Orange detoxification, and recovering for Vietnamese soldiers’ remains.
Ambassador Shear thanked the Vietnamese Government for its effective cooperation over the past 25 years and expressed his hope of further cooperation with Vietnam. In 25 years of cooperation, the two sides have excavated 685 sites and returned 945 remains to the US.
