Vietnam underlines international law at East Sea conference

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam on Tuesday underlined the importance of upholding international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Head of the Vietnamese delegation, Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Director of the Center for International Law under the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, was speaking at the 15th annual East Sea (internationally known as South China Sea) conference hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington DC on Tuesday

The hybrid event gathered former US officials, international experts, scholars and diplomats, including representatives from Vietnam, the US, Canada, Poland, Australia, India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Huong underscored the importance of upholding international law, sharing responsibility among relevant parties, building trust, enhancing cooperation, and jointly managing the risks of conflict, thus safeguarding long-term peace and stability in the East Sea.
