He told a European Commission (EC) inspection team visiting Vietnam to review progress in combating IUU fishing that these efforts also aim to fulfill Vietnam’s responsibilities in addressing regional and global issues.
Deputy PM Ha said Vietnam will continue to consider the team’s recommendations to refine policies, improve fisheries management, and ensure the sustainable use of marine resources.
Vietnam is committed to reviewing and amending relevant regulations in the short term, strictly handling violations, and publicly disclosing IUU fishing enforcement results, he added.
Head of the EC inspection delegation Fernando Andresen Guimarães said Vietnam’s efforts over the past eight years have been remarkable, reaffirming the EU’s readiness to support the country in eliminating IUU fishing and ultimately lifting the “yellow card.”
