Vietnam, RoK vow stronger legislative, economic ties

(VOVWORLD) - The National Assemblies of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) on Thursday vowed to further strengthen political trust, maintain regular high-level delegation exchanges, and create a solid foundation for expanding comprehensive cooperation across all fields.

During talks between National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Speaker of the RoK National Assembly Woo Won Shik, following a grand welcome ceremony for the Korean guest, the two sides agreed to enhance defense and security cooperation, share experience and support each other in addressing non-traditional security challenges and transnational crime.

They emphasized the crucial role of the two National Assemblies in overseeing and promoting the implementation of high-level agreements between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, as well as in sharing legislative experience and strengthening mutual understanding between lawmakers and the peoples of both countries.

Regarding cooperation in the period ahead, the two leaders agreed to continue reinforcing political trust, maintain regular exchanges of high-level delegations, and create a solid foundation for expanding comprehensive cooperation across all areas.

Both sides agreed to promote effective, mutually beneficial economic cooperation, striving to raise two-way trade to 150 billion USD by 2030. They also committed to expanding cooperation in industry, energy, and technology transfer to support shared development goals. Building on the Vietnam–Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the two legislatures will also broaden cooperation in human resources training, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to strengthen coordination to contribute to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Following their talks, Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Speaker Woo Won-shik signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Korean National Assembly.

The same day, Chairman Man hosted a banquet for the high-level Korean parliamentary delegation.
