Vietnam PM meets with leaders of Brunei, Timor-Leste on ASEAN Summit sidelines

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on Brunei to continue facilitating Vietnamese firms operating in oil and gas, chemicals, and food industries while meeting Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Malaysia on Tuesday.

Mr. Chinh also sought additional fishing licenses for Vietnamese vessels and fishermen to operate in Brunei waters and Brunei's support for Vietnam’s halal food production.

The two leaders committed to efficiently implementing the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership Action Plan until 2027, while increasing exchanges at all levels and promoting people-to-people connections, creating momentum to deepen bilateral ties.

Meeting with his Timor-Leste counterpart Xanana Gusmao the same day, PM Chinh congratulated Timor-Leste on receiving unanimous support from ASEAN leaders for its admission as a new member of the bloc at the 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled for October.

Vietnam stands ready to share its experience in socio-economic development with Timor-Leste, Mr. Chinh noted.

PM Gusmao thanked Vietnam for supporting Timor-Leste to join ASEAN and insisted that his country attaches special attention to and wishes to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam.
