(VOVworld)- Vo Cong Chanh, Chairman of Hoang Sa District People’s Committee of Da Nang City, on Friday released an official statement opposing China’s deployment of oil rig HD 981 and other ships in the Hoang Sa archipelago in Da Nang city. The statement cited that the location of the deployment of China’s oil rig HD 981 at 15°29’58’’ North latitude and 111°12’06’’ East longitude on May 2, 2014 is within the Hoang Sa sea under the management of Hoang Sa District of Da Nang city. In the statement, Chairman Chanh strongly opposed China for violating international law, principles and agreements on resolving sea-related issues and worsening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Chanh demanded China respect and seriously and unconditionally abide by the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the 2002 Declaration on the Conducts of Parties in the East Sea and related agreements signed between the two countries’ leaders, withdraw the oil rig HD 981 and other ships out of Vietnam’s territorial waters and resolve all disputes through negotiations. In an interview with VOV, Doctor of Science Luong Van Ke, an expert in geopolitical analyses of the International Department of Hanoi National University, said that China’s acts destroyed all commitments and agreements signed by Vietnamese and Chinese leaders. He said this was China’s geopolitical attempt to monopolize the East Sea and invade Vietnam’s territorial waters and continental shelf:“China’s acts created serious instability in the region of coastal countries in the East Sea and also impacted other countries that have interests in the region concerning maritime freedom and security. The situation will impact the global security and in a certain extent, it will cause political crisis and also major global economic crisis because the world’s population and geological centre concentrates in the Asia Pacific region. China’s acts destroyed all the orders, which have been relatively stable in recent years”.

On the same day, at a meeting with Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of Staff of Vietnam People’s Army during his visit to Vietnam, French Senator Team Claude Peyromelt agreed with Vietnam’s viewpoint in dealing with China’s deployment of oil rig HD 981 in Vietnam’s sea through peaceful negotiation on the basis of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The French Senator affirmed that the international community would not let China turn the East Sea into its sea.
