Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Tri Thuc said that in recent years, the Health Ministry and the IOM have worked closely in migrant health.
“The two agencies have strengthened cooperation in cross-border tuberculosis control and public health preparations for natural disasters. Last year the IOM helped Vietnam organize a workshop on improving health, the number 3 goal of the UN Millennium Development Goals, and implement the UN’s global agreement on safe, orderly migration,” Thuc noted.
IOM Chief of Mission in Vietnam Park Mi-Hyung said cooperation with the Ministry of Health plays an important role in ensuring the health and improving the quality of life of migrants in line with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration and the Sustainable Development Goals.
“The document serves as a foundation to strengthen the partnership in the health sector between the two agencies. As the leading UN agency for safe migration, the IOM will continue its strategic and long-term cooperation with the Government of Vietnam, especially the Ministry of Health, to ensure the health and quality of life for all including migrants. We look forward to further strengthening our strong cooperation,” said Park.
