Deputy PM Son is leading the Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN+1 and ASEAN+3 meetings with partners from Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the United States, as part of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-58) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Amid global and regional fluctuations, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that countries promote dialogue, build trust, shape a regional structure that is inclusive, transparent, and based on international law with ASEAN at the center, and ramp up cooperation to respond to non-traditional challenges.
Vietnam affirmed ASEAN's principled stance on global and regional issues like the East Sea and the Korean Peninsula; and asked partners to support efforts to build the East Sea into a sea of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.
Mr. Son proposed boosting supply chain connectivity, developing the digital economy, green transformation, sustainable trade and supporting micro, small and medium enterprises. He suggested that ASEAN and its partners soon upgrade free trade agreements and step up support for the implementation of new initiatives.
Vietnam also proposed prioritizing energy cooperation and considering the possibility of establishing a regional energy agreement, aiming to ensure sustainable energy security and a fair energy transition.
