On the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-58) and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters met on Thursday to discuss the development of an Action Program to implement the newly upgraded Partnership framework. The two sides also discussed the organization of the 3rd Foreign Ministers’ Meeting later this year and the implementation of the agreements reached during New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to Vietnam in February.

Deputy PM Son proposed New Zealand continue to provide official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam and enhance cooperation in education.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters welcomed Vietnam’s role as the coordinator of the ASEAN-New Zealand relations and urged to promote ASEAN-New Zealand relations, toward establishing the ASEAN-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework in the near future.
