Vietnam gives top priority to green growth in digital age

(VOVWORLD) -Digital economy, green economy, circular economy, and creative economy are an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority for Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at the annual Vietnam Business Forum on Monday in Hanoi.

At the forum Prime Minister Chinh praised this year forum’s them "FDI enterprises pioneering in implementing the Green Growth Strategy in the digital age", adding that when placed in the global and Vietnamese context, green and digital transformations are key drivers for rapid and sustainable development.

The Prime Minister outlined Vietnam’s growth target of 8% in 2025 and double digits in the following stages, in which he said the development of green and digital economy is a mandatory requirement, in line with the development trend. 

“Digital, green, circular, and creative economies are objective requirements, strategic choices and top priorities of Vietnam to contribute to transparency of the investment and business environment and make business access more convenient and clearer. We need green development to cut carbon emissions to zero by 2050.”

The Prime Minister requested a focus on restructuring the economy coupled with growth model reform, creating breakthroughs in institutions, human resources and infrastructure; and shifting from administrative management to development facilitation.

Enterprises build long-term, sustainable, environmentally friendly business strategies towards reducing emissions; innovate production and business models; restructure enterprises associated with development towards green, digital, and circular economy, PM Chinh suggested.

The Vietnam Business Forum is jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation and the Vietnam Business Forum Alliance.
