Vietnam extends condolences to earthquake-hit countries

(VOVworld) - Vietnam was sad to see losses caused  by consecutive natural disasters in recent days in a number of countries including the Sunday quake in Ecuador, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh said on Monday.

Vietnam sympathized with the Ecuadorian government and people over the loses and damages and hopes that it will soon overcome the difficulties to continue its development path.

Binh quoted the Vietnamese Embassy in Chile and Ecuador as saying that no Vietnamese citizens are reported living in the quake-hit area but the Embassy kept working with the host country’s relevant agencies to know the situation of Vietnamese people to give timely support.

On Sunday, ASEAN Foreign Ministers made a statement on the recent earthquakes in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ecuador, India, Japan, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan that caused great human and material losses. The statement says ASEAN member countries are ready to help the governments and peoples of affected nations to surmount the current hardships.
