Local authorities reported 270 killed and more than 2,000 injured in northeastern Pakistan. The National Disaster Management Authority confirmed around 230 people killed and more than 1,600 injured. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made a fact-finding tour to the disaster area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and promised financial support for earthquake victims. In Afghanistan, President Ashraf Ghani confirmed 115 deaths and more than 150 injured people in the earthquake. Rescue forces have been deployed in Afghanistan’s northern and eastern provinces.

 

The international community including the UN, the US, India, and China have sent condolences to the families of earthquake victims and expressed their readiness to support Pakistan and Afghanistan.
