It has the highest installed solar power capacity in Southeast Asia, and the government is committed to increasing the clean energy supply and improving air quality, Techwire Asia said Thursday. The website noted that Vietnam, one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, has demonstrated its seriousness in pursuing a green energy transition, especially when it comes to embracing solar power.

The website cited a World Bank report that said Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in installed solar power capacity, 16,500MW at the end of 2020. The International Renewable Energy Agency also said that Vietnam, at the end of 2020, was in the top 10 countries in the world for installed solar power capacity.

Market experts say if Vietnam maintains its rapid rate of renewable energy expansion over two years, it will continue to climb in the ranking, surpassing Australia and Italy in renewable energy development and innovative energy solutions.
