Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Mission to the United Nations, noted recent political and security progresses in Sudan, and in Darfur in particular. He laid stress on the significance of maintaining peace, stability, and development in Sudan’s transition period while pushing up peace negotiations to root out conflicts in Darfur. Mr. Anh highlighted the role of the UN, the African Union, and regional countries in resuming peace and stability in Sudan while calling for more reconciliation initiatives by South Sudan. The Ambassador voiced his support for the intention of the responsible drawdown and exit of UNAMID and the establishment of a follow-on presence to UNAMID in compliance with the Sudanese government’s aspirations, the on-spot situation, and the UN Security Council’s resolutions. He highlighted the role of women in the peace process, saying more attention should be paid to the matter in the post-UNAMID period.
