Ambassador Quy praised the transitional government in South Sudan, and said South Sudan would be able to settle pending issues if its political resolve is maintained. He also lauded the performance of the UN Mission in South Sudan which includes a Vietnamese peacekeeping force.

Rapporteurs say South Sudan has made progress, the most noteworthy being the formation of a transitional government on February 22. UNSC members expressed support for full implementation of the peace agreement and called on all parties to observe the ceasefire agreement. They called for continued international humanitarian aid to South Sudan.

Sudan’s central bank said on Wednesday that the US has lifted sanctions on 157 Sudanese firms, in line with a policy shift by Washington in late 2017. It said only a few Sudanese individuals and entities remain under US sanctions for their links to the conflict in Darfur, a region racked by a protracted conflict that began in 2003.
