Hang said Thailand and Cambodia are not only neighbors of each other and of Vietnam, but also members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

"What is most important at this time is that both sides exercise maximum restraint, refrain from the use of force, and prevent further escalation, and settle disputes peacefully and appropriately based on the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity for the long-term interests of both countries and the region as a whole," said the spokesperson.
