The statement came amid constant calls by the opposition Unified Democratic Panel (MUD) for a referendum to topple President Nicolas Maduro.
In early August, the CNE approved the first step in an opposition campaign to recall President Nicolas Maduro with signatures from 1%. Socorro Hernández said the collection of the signatures of 20% of the electorate would take place by the end of October, adding that the referendum would only take place in the first quarter of next year if MUD fully meets the regulations lain out in the law.
