This was a response to demonstrations staged by the opposition. The president of the transport workers’ union, José Betancourt, said the demonstration shows support for the government and opposes plots that damage democracy in Venezuela.
Demonstrators, many of whom came from other provinces, denounced the opposition and showed their determination to protect the government.
Ernesto Samper, General Secretary of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) said Tuesday that international mediators will meet next week to find a way to end the political crisis in Venezuela. He said Pope Francis wants to be an intermediary for negotiations.
