The announcement came after the second round of US-mediated negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, concluded after two days without major breakthroughs on key issues, apart from the exchange of over 310 prisoners.
Russia’s TASS news agency reported that Washington and Kyiv are discussing the possibility of holding simultaneous general elections and a referendum on a potential peace agreement in Ukraine in May. The proposal was raised by the US negotiating team, led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, during talks in Abu Dhabi.
