Mr. Trump won 54.1 percent of the votes, leaving far behind his rival Ted Cruz with 33.8 percent. The win pushes the New York businessman closer to the Republican nomination for president. A candidate must reach 1,237 delegates to become the party's candidate in November's general election.

Senator Bernie Sanders won the Indiana Democratic primary, narrowing the gap with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to become the Democratic Party’s candidate. Senator Sanders won 53.1 percent of the votes to Ms. Clinton’s 46.9 percent. The victory does little to help Sanders cut into Clinton’s big delegate lead.
