(VOVworld) -  The Obama administration has decided to back loans to build the first US nuclear power plants in more than 30 years.

Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz has announced the White House’s final approval of 6.5 billion USD loan guarantees for the Vogtle nuclear plant now under construction in eastern Georgia. With 2 reactors, the new nuclear power plant will be able to generate electricity for nearly 1.5 million households. Moniz said the guarantees are part of the government’s plan to develop clean energy to cut down the green house gas emissions.
