(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump on Friday decided to deploy 2,000 national guard troops to respond to protests in Los Angeles, California, against immigration officers carrying out arrests of undocumented migrants.

The protests entered the second day with more clashes between demonstrators and federal immigration officers. Authorities used tear gas, flash grenades, and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

On Friday, armed officers from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted coordinated raids targeting undocumented immigrants in at least three areas of Los Angeles. About 121 undocumented immigrants were arrested.

The operation sparked widespread protests across Los Angeles, with hundreds of protesters demanding the release of the detained.
