Yellen’s first in-person meeting with Liu follows a pledge by both countries to work to ease tensions following US President Joe Biden’s talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Indonesia in November.

Liu is in Switzerland for World Economic Forum meetings in Davos.
