(VOVworld) – The US and Cuba are expected to reach an agreement Wednesday to reopen embassies in each other’s capital, formally restoring their diplomatic relations. An unnamed Obama administration official said Tuesday that President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry will discuss plans and deliver speeches announcing the reopening of embassies in Vienna, where they are negotiating a nuclear agreement with Iran.

The US and Cuba have been working to restore diplomatic relations since President Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro’s historic announcement that they would normalize relations last December.

Since then, there have been 4 rounds of negotiation in Washington and Hanava. The latest round took place on May 21 and 22 in Washington. The US recently removed Cuba from its state sponsors of terrorism list, removing the biggest obstacle to normal relations.

In April, the two conducted an initial dialogue on human rights.
