The resolution was proposed by the US, Argentina, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines, and Vietnam and co-sponsored by 126 countries.
The resolution aims to raise awareness of, and direct attention to, the barriers and challenges women farmers face and the initiatives, policies, and actions that can be taken to address those issues and achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women in agriculture.
The Food and Agriculture Organization will coordinate with other UN agencies to implement the resolution and observe the International Year. Vietnam, as a member of the initiating core group, will actively contribute to negotiating and promoting this meaningful initiative.
