The meeting occurred shortly after Israel and Iran reached a US-brokered ceasefire agreement, which temporarily halted a nearly two-week conflict.

During the session, UN political affairs chief Rosemary DiCarlo said that the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump on Monday presented an opportunity for parties to avoid a catastrophic escalation and pursue a peaceful solution to the Iran nuclear issue.

DiCarlo also said that the escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict since June 13, including the US airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21, had diminished prospects for Resolution 2231’s full implementation. She noted that despite some differences, JCPOA parties, including China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, and Iran, have reiterated their commitment to a diplomatic solution.
