(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council will hold its first formal discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) this week in New York, with Britain to call for an international dialogue about AI’s threat to global peace and security.

Governments around the world are wondering how to mitigate the dangers of emerging AI technology, which is likely to reshape the global economy and change the international security landscape.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will chair the discussion on Tuesday.

This month, Britain holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, and has been seeking a global leadership role in AI regulation.

The world has seen an explosion of AI-generated content since the launch of the chatbot Chat GPT last year. Countries around the world are seeking ways to regulate chatbots and guarantee that the technology does not pose a threat to humanity.
