(VOVWORLD) - Marking four years since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” and a “comprehensive, just and lasting peace.”

At its 11th Emergency Special Session on Tuesday, the resolution, sponsored by Ukraine and several European countries, was adopted with 107 votes in favor, 12 against and 51 abstentions. Russia voted against, while the US abstained.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged diplomats to use all available tools to end the conflict. Meanwhile, UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock called for daily efforts toward peace and an immediate, comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire.

The resolution also mentions confidence-building measures, including the exchange of all prisoners of war and the release of unlawfully detained persons.
