The Government responded Thursday to a request by Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne that written proposals for resolving the Brexit deadlock be summited by the end of this month.

The European Commission said Thursday that it has no firm deadline for when Britain should make a formal proposal to break the deadlock over Brexit, but it should be presented before the “milestone” EU summit next month.

Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay held talks with EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier Friday, amid fresh hopes for a deal before October 31. Prime Minister Boris Johnson told EC President Jean-Claude Juncker that he will not request another extension of the Brexit deadline.
