The MEPs insist that they will not consent to any Withdrawal Agreement without a backstop between North Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and the UK will have to assume full responsibility for a “no deal” exit and the serious consequences that would entail.
The EP resolution emphasizes that a “no deal” scenario will not remove the UK’s obligations and commitments concerning financial settlements, protection of citizens’ rights, and compliance with the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, all of which are necessary preconditions for Parliament’s approval of any future relationship between the EU and the UK.
