The Centre’s Chief Advisor Surapong Tovichakchaikul, who is also the Thai caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, said the Centre will ask the cabinet to replace the emergency decree with the Internal Security Act (ISA) at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting. Once the ISA takes effect, a revised center will supervise army, police, and civilian operations. According to the Centre, the move will benefit Thailand’s image, investment, and business activities.

There has been mounting pressure from business organizations and an easing of anti-government demonstrations in the streets. Adul Saengsingkaew, the Thai national police chief, has voiced support for the move.
