(VOVworld) – Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Chief Adviser of the Thai Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO), announced on Monday that his centre will propose to the coming cabinet meeting the ending of the state of emergency which is still in effect in Bangkok and adjacent provinces.

According to the CMPO, which is in charge of enforcing the state of emergency, it should be replaced by an Internal Security Act. Once the act is approved, the CMPO would become a new unit of the same structure to supervise the army, the police, and civil activities. The centre highlighted that the state of emergency’s removal would benefit Thailand’s image and attract more investment, tourism, and businesses.
