The Hamas civil defense force reported 14 deaths in Gaza City and 13 in Khan Yunis area. Data from Gaza hospitals and civil authorities indicate that more than 280 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes since the ceasefire took effect in early September.
Israel said it struck Hamas positions after the militants opened fire in areas of Israeli troops in the south, calling it a dangerous escalation.
The current Gaza ceasefire is based on a US-mediated plan that includes a condition that Hamas releases the hostages. All alive hostages were handed over, but the return of bodies remains slow, with three bodies still in Gaza. Phase two of President Trump’s peace plan, which includes disarming Hamas and deploying an international stabilization force, has not achieved consensus.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday approved a resolution supporting the peace plan, but it was opposed by Hamas.
