Russia, Ukraine agree to another prisoner exchange

(VOVWORLD) - Russian and Ukrainian delegations held a third round of peace talks in Istanbul on Wednesday. The Russian delegation was led by Vladimir Medinsky, President Vladimir Putin's aide, while National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov was the head of the Ukrainian delegation.

According to the Russian News Agency TASS, the third round of peace talks lasted just 40 minutes and specific outcomes have not been disclosed.

Citing Russian chief negotiator Medinsky, AFP reported that during the talks, Russia and Ukraine agreed to exchange 1,200 prisoners of war from each side. In addition, Moscow offered to return the bodies of 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers.

Russia and Ukraine held two rounds of negotiations in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2, which led to an agreement to exchange thousands of prisoners and the remains of fallen soldiers. The two sides also exchanged draft memoranda outlining proposals for ending the 3-year conflict.
