(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has left Brunei concluding his participation at the 23
rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings. He participated at a ceremony to hand over the ASEAN chairmanship to Myanmar.

Speaking at the event, Myanmar President Thein Sein pledged the country’s best efforts to successfully fulfilling the chairmanship and to promote ASEAN’s priority and cooperation with partner countries. ASEAN leaders agreed on Myanmar’s suggested topic for upcoming ASEAN meetings of solidarity towards a community of peace and prosperity.
On the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting on Thursday, the Vietnamese Prime Minister met Filipino President and Malaysian Prime Minister. Prime Minister Dung reiterated the importance of developing bilateral relations with the Philippines as ASEAN members and neighbors of similarities. He asked both sides to raise two-way trade turnover and agricultural cooperation as well as completion of joint program of actions by 2016. In his meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dung called for favorable conditions for Vietnamese workers in Malaysia. Prime Minister Abdul Razak wished to strengthen trade, investment and security cooperation with Vietnam and called for Vietnam’s support to long-term Malaysian investment in the country.
The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended meetings between the ASEAN and its partners, including China, Japan, South Korea, India and the United Nations. The Prime Minister reiterated the significance of regional peace, maritime and energy security. He called for more India’s support to promote ASEAN’s information technology infrastructure. He suggested the UN to boost cooperation with regional countries in reaching Millennium Development Goals, ender equality and epidemic control. He emphasized the importance of ASEAN principles regarding the East Sea issues and pledged Vietnam’s participation in UN peace keeping activities for world peace and development.
In a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Prime Minister Dung spoke highly of a cooperation agreement on using nuclear power for peaceful purpose which was just initialled by Kerry and his Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh. He hailed the agreement as a positive and important move in creating a legal basis for Vietnam to access US high technology on nuclear power and boosting Vietnam-US civil nuclear power cooperation. He welcomed the outcomes of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement negotiations, which reaffirms the participants’ determination to conclude the process this year to have a high-quality document with balanced interests and taking into account the diverse development levels of member countries. John Kerry said he hopes the agreement on using nuclear power for peaceful purpose will contribute to strengthening the Vietnam-US economic ties.
The US government attaches importance to boosting cooperation with Vietnam , especially in economic, trade and investment and the implementation of the TPP negotiations as well as other agreements between the two countries.
