Most EU member states supported the tariff plan, while Germany—home to Europe's leading automotive industry—and Hungary voted against it. Germany has voiced concerns that a potential "trade war" with China could negatively impact its automotive sector.

The tariffs, which are set to take effect on October 31, follow the EU's earlier decision to impose temporary duties of up to 38.1% on Chinese electric cars, implemented on July 4. Additionally, an EU investigation into whether Chinese automakers receive unfair subsidies will continue until November 2.

A spokesperson from China's Ministry of Commerce urged the EU to resolve the trade dispute through consultations, as tensions between the two sides have been escalating in recent months.
