Receiving Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam, who came to present her credentials earlier this week, the President said that the two sides should consider signing documents to create a foundation to promote bilateral collaboration, proposing that Vietnam provide a preferential visa policy for Maldivian citizens.

Ambassador Tam affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to relations with South Asian countries, including Maldives, and highly values the good friendship between the two nations. She held that the two sides boast great potential in bolstering cooperation, especially in tourism, fisheries, culture, sports, investment and trade, as well as in dealing with common issues such as climate change, sea level rise and maritime environment protection.

Vietnam hopes for Maldives’ continued support for its candidacy at multilateral forums, said the diplomat, expressing hope that the Maldives’ President and Government will continue supporting the Vietnamese community in this country.
