(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary and President To Lam hosted receptions in Hanoi on Tuesday for newly-accredited ambassadors from several countries who presented their credentials to the top leader.

Mr. Lam told Chinese Ambassador He Wei that he believes the ambassador will promote his role as a bridge connecting the two countries and contributing to enhancing the friendship and comprehensive collaboration between the two Parties and countries.

He emphasized that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam consistently attach importance to the development of their traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, considering this a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy.

Ambassador He affirmed that he will do his utmost to foster the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, as well as the Vietnam-China community with a shared future which carries strategic significance.

The Chinese diplomat was committed to enhancing his role in coordinating and promoting collaboration between Chinese and Vietnamese ministries and localities in implementing common perceptions reached by high-ranking leaders and agreements signed by both sides.

He also pledged to contribute to stepping up regular high-level exchanges to reinforce political trust, expanding substantive cooperation in defense and security, elevating socio-economic and cultural cooperation, promoting friendly people-to-people exchanges; maintaining close cooperation in multilateral mechanisms and at international forums; and jointly controlling and better resolving disagreements at sea.

Receiving Sri Lankan Ambassador Poshitha Perera, Party leader and President Lam suggested that the two sides promote political trust and increase the exchanges of delegations and meetings at all levels.

He said Vietnam is committed to supporting Sri Lanka in agricultural development, promoting people-to-people exchanges and tourism development, and strengthening business activities between the two countries.

He agreed on the launching of a direct air route between the two countries. Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge for Sri Lanka to expand its ties with ASEAN, he said, pledging to support the country at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations.

At a reception for Austrian Ambassador Philippo Agathonnos, the Vietnamese top leader emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and cooperation with Austria, saying the exchange of delegations at all level, especially high levels, through all channels have created important motivations for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries. He said the two sides should work closely together to take full advantage of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), while encouraging and creating favorable conditions for Austrian businesses to strengthen cooperation, investment and technology transfer in Vietnam.

Mr. Lam also proposed that Ambassador Agathonnos advise the Austrian Parliament to finalize procedures to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) at an early date.

On the same day, Lam received letters of credentials presented by 14 ambassadors from Costa Rica, Malta, Sudan, Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Rwanda, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Botswana, and Bhutan.
