President Ho Chi Minh’s birth anniversary celebrated abroad

(VOVWORLD) - Activities to mark the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday on Monday, May 19, were held in many countries, attracting overseas Vietnamese, international friends, and local authorities.

In Russia, a celebration took place in Ulyanovsk city, the hometown of the great leader of the world proletariat Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, a mentor to Ho Chi Minh and the leader of the October Revolution, which illuminated the path to Vietnam’s liberation. The celebration was attended by Ulyanovsk Governor Alexey Russkikh, city leaders, and many overseas Vietnamese and locals.

The Saint Petersburg Committee for Foreign Relations held a commemoration ceremony, where Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi said, “It was President Ho Chi Minh’s profound ideal ‘For the freedom of my country, for the happiness of my people’ and the path taken by the Russian people to build a strong, independent, and free nation that forged a deep bond between the two peoples.”

“Thanks to the October Revolution of 1917 and the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, Vietnam’s August Revolution succeeded, leading to the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945, the first workers’ and farmers’ state in Southeast Asia,” said Ambassador Khoi.

The commemoration of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday marked the beginning of Vietnam Cultural Week in Saint Petersburg which will run until May 23.

In Paris, the Embassy of Vietnam offered incense to President Ho Chi Minh at his altar in the embassy compound and laid flowers at the Ho Chi Minh statue in Montreau Park, Montreuil.

A celebration was held on Sunday by the Embassy of Vietnam in Romania. Following an incense offering ceremony, participants visited a photo exhibition showcasing President Ho Chi Minh’s activities during his official visit to Romania in August 1957, explored the President bookshelf at the embassy, and watched a documentary film about the great man.
