The event was co-organized by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education and the Mass Mobilization Commission, in coordination with Vietnam Television to celebrate the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh.
From over 1,500 literary, artistic, and journalistic works submitted to the competition, the judging panel selected 12 first prizes (A), 56 second prizes (B), 99 third prizes (C), and 102 consolation prizes, along side 46 collectives and individuals awards.
Winning a second prize for the piece “Folk songs of the White Thai people in Lai Chau,” artisan Dieu Van Thuyen from Lai Chau province said: “I uphold President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching that ‘Culture is the soul of the nation. As long as culture exists, the nation exists; if culture loses, the nation loses.’ The Thai culture once deeply permeated our community’s consciousness. We cannot let it fade away. I have made every effort to collect and document these cultural pieces. Wherever I went, I took notes. For some songs, I had to visit four artisans to complete the collection. We have to pass our heritage to the younger generation, so they can appreciate and make use of its values.”
