Deputy Prime Minister Thanh on Friday chaired an online conference with localities on finalizing the national electricity development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045 (known as Power Plan 8).

At the conference, the localities agreed with the careful approach of the Government and the Prime Minister in order to ensure energy security; reasonably arrange power sources among regions; reduce investment costs for transmission systems, thereby minimizing total investment and keeping electricity prices at a reasonable level; and implement Vietnam's strong commitments on emission reduction.

Amid the global green and clean energy transformation, especially after the 26th UN Climate Conference (COP26) and Vietnam’s net zero emissions commitment  by 2050, the Power Plan 8 will guide investment and development process in the energy sector, said Deputy Prime Minister Thanh.

He requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to finalize the Draft Power Plan 8 for approval by the National Appraisal Council, before being submitted to the Prime Minister for approval this month.
