At the second Vietnam Clean Energy Forum in Hanoi on Thursday, Nguyen Manh Hien, former Director of the Energy Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said once Vietnam develops nuclear electricity after 2030, it can achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 as pledged by the Prime Minister at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2021 (COP26).

In a report sent to the government earlier, experts of the Energy Magazine of the Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) had recommended to restart the project soon.

Hoang Trong Hieu, a member of the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development, said the Government has recently turned its attention back to nuclear energy development, but will not yet include it in the power planning for 2021-2030.
