PM arrives in Jakarta for 43rd ASEAN Summit

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Monday for the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings at the invitation of President Joko Widodo.

The events will take place in Jakarta from September 4 to 7, culminating Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship 2023 under the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will give speeches on Vietnam's viewpoints and initiatives to accelerate the building of a strong and united ASEAN Community with an increasingly important role and position in the region and the world.

He will also deliver a key note speech at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit themed "ASEAN in a Multipolar World".

PM Chinh will meet leaders of some countries and organizations to promote bilateral cooperation and will attend the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum.

In an interview with VOV’s correspondents in Jakarta, Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN, said that Vietnam has made many important contributions to the overall success of ASEAN meetings during the year.

“The Vietnamese delegation to ASEAN is directly involved in negotiating important documents, including the joint statement between ASEAN and its partners. Vietnam contributes ideas to all three pillars of political security, economy, and socio-culture,” he said.

“The summit is scheduled to adopt the Declaration on ASEAN's Development Vision for the next 20 years until 2045. Vietnam supports and contributes many substantive ideas to building the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific as well as to economic agreements between ASEAN and its partners.”
