Michael Croft, Chief Representative of UNESCO Office in Vietnam, granted the certificate to the province. Xoan singing is a religious practice rooted in the worship of the Hung Kings. It is traditionally performed during the first two months of the lunar calendar in holy places such as temples, sanctuaries and communal houses. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam told the participants that UNESCO’s recognition is a pride of Phu Tho province and the whole nation. He congratulated Xoan singing troupes and communities, individuals and organizations in preserving and promoting the viability of Xoan singing.
