The decision was announced on Friday at the 12th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held on South Korea’s Jeju Island.

UNESCO listed Xoan singing as an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection in 2011. After six years, Vietnam asked UNESCO to remove Xoan singing from the list because has been revived. With the addition of Xoan singing, Vietnam now has 12 intangible cultural heritages which have been recognized by the UN agency.
