Mr. Trong said he is deeply impressed by the warmth with which the King, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk as well as Cambodian leaders and people received him and the Vietnamese delegation, which reflects the traditional friendship and sense of neighborliness between the two countries.
During an earlier meeting, Mr. Trong and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen agreed to further cultivate political trust between the two countries.
Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is also President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), expressed profound gratitude to Vietnam for its enormous support for his country throughout history, affirming that the Cambodian people always remember the sincere and effective assistance that helped liberate them from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in 1979 and rebuild the country.

Party leader and President Trong said Vietnam always prioritizes relations with Cambodia and the CPP, stressing that Vietnam will exert every effort to join their Cambodian counterparts in developing bilateral ties for the sake of their two peoples and in the interest of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Mr. Trong also had separate meetings with the President of the Cambodian Senate Say Chhum and the President of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin who said they believed that the Vietnamese top leader’s visit will contribute to nurturing and deepening relations between the two nations as well as their respective legislative bodies.
They also expressed their admiration for Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements, while appreciating its increasing position and role in the region and around the world.
Mr. Trong reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of giving top priority to consolidating and developing ties with neighboring countries, including Cambodia.
