Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that 80 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh established the Provisional Revolutionary Government and assumed the post of the first Minister of Foreign Affairs. Since then, Vietnamese diplomacy has carried the noble mission of being the combined arms of the Vietnamese Revolution on the silent front, protecting independence, sovereignty, and connecting the Vietnamese people with the world.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Party General Secretary To Lam called on the diplomatic sector to focus on a number of orientations. They are building a comprehensive, modern, professional diplomacy imbued with Vietnamese identity; covering all three pillars of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy; and combining diplomacy with national defense, security, economy, science and technology, culture, and foreign service information.

The General Secretary stressed the need to ensure the highest national interests on the basis of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. Independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and a peaceful and stable environment for national development must be maintained, Mr. Lam said.
“Promoting the Vietnamese diplomatic identity: Firm in principles, flexible in strategies, ensuring the highest national interests, enhancing the national stature while honoring the value of peace, upholding noble humanism and contributing actively and responsibly to the common values of humanity and the international community.”
“On the basis of the United Nations Charter, international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), properly handle issues at sea and on land with the motto of both cooperation and struggle, in which efforts are made to boost cooperation, dialogue, and seek common ground with relevant parties. Comprehensive diplomacy for development must be reinforced, focusing on economic diplomacy and technological diplomacy,” he added.
